13th Annual Streiff Sporting Goods Fishing Tournament

Lake of the Woods, Warroad Minnesota

The 13th Annual Streiff Sporting Goods Fishing Tournament will take place Saturday, July 7, 2012. This is your opportunity to be a part of an ever growing event!

A snapshot of the event looks like this:
There is a mandatory meeting at Streiff Sporting Goods the night before the tournament, where registration takes place, teams are presented with the rules, and refreshments are served. The public is also welcomed at this meeting.

Tournament day is exciting as boats check in and are sent out for the day. The tournament consists of 100 two-man teams that leave the Warroad docks at 8:00 a.m. and return at 3:00 p.m. As the teams are out fishing, we also host the 5th Annual Kid’s Fishing Tournament off the docks and jetty at The Point in Warroad. This is a free event for kids 12 and under.

Around 3:00 p.m., the real excitement begins, as boats start coming in, fish are weighed, and numbers start to go up on the leader board. This year there will be a closed off area where beverages will be sold. Attendance at the weigh in in the past has been 350-400 people, as more and more of the public join in!

You can be a part of this exciting tournament in one of four ways:

Each team will be allowed to check in a total of 8 fish. Fish must be a minimum of 14 inches, with only ONE fish over 28 inches. No fish may be brought in between 19 1⁄2” and 28”. Any fish judged not to be fresh (caught that day) will result in team disqualification. Fish may be weighed in at any time during the tournament. All fish will become the possession of Streiff Sporting Goods and will be donated to the Warroad Senior Living Center, Greenbush Nursing Home, and Roseau Nursing Home. Teams cannot bring in more than 8 fish or they will be subject to disqualification.
  8. INSPECTION Every boat’s contents and live well will be inspected at check-in prior to the start of the tournament. Alcohol will not be allowed in the boat. Boats and trailers will also be inspected for (and must be free of) vegetation prior to start of tournament. Tournament officials or other fishermen may observe teams.
It shall be illegal for any boat to go ashore or come together, other than at the check-in point. Exceptions to this rule would include storm, sickness, mechanical difficulties, or other emergency situations. Marine band radios or cell phones may be used in case of emergency situations only. It will be illegal for participants to use binoculars or cameras with telephoto lenses.
Any infractions of tournament rules may result in disqualification; tournament officials will make all decisions.
  9. SCORING Prizes will be based on the total weight (pounds and ounces) of each of the team’s fish. Ties will be broken by the individual weight of the largest fish between the two catches. The next largest fish from each respective catch will determine ties between the largest walleyes. Cash prizes are based on an 80% pay back; if the field of participants is less than 100, boats amounts will be adjusted accordingly. Door prizes will also be awarded to participants not placing in the top eight or largest walleye. Prizes are as follows:

4th place $1900 5th place $1600 6th place $1300

  1. SAFETY All Minnesota fishing and boating regulations must be observed by tournament teams. In case of inclement weather, the tournament will be moved to Sunday, July 8th. Should the weather continue to be uncooperative, the event will be canceled; entry fees would be refunded in their entirety.
  2. We have been authorized by the state of Minnesota to have 8 (eight) fish, with one being over 28 inches. No fish between 19 1⁄2 - 28”.
  3. We will be issuing tags for the fish. Each team will be given 8 (eight) tags. Every fish you put in your live well must be tagged. If the boat inspectors check your boat and you do not have a tag on a fish, you will be disqualified. You must tag the fish so that the tag cannot fall off or be pulled out. Any fish brought in with tags that have been tampered with will be disqualified. You must return all your tags regardless of how many fish you weigh in. Any team not turning in all 8 (eight) tags will be disqualified. There will be no exceptions to this rule. No excuses will be accepted if you do not have all 8 (eight).
  4. Boats will be periodically checked on the lake. We will pull up beside you and one person will jump into your boat and inspect your fish. Please help us out and be cooperative with this so we can make it a quick and easy check for everyone.
  5. The public has first use of the docks for loading and unloading. Please be respectful of that.
  6. Life jackets must be worn when running to and from fishing areas.
  7. Tournament Start: We will be starting the boats from the city dock area. We will be doing this by flights. You will be responsible to present your boat number at the time your flight is to depart. It is mandatory that you depart in numeric sequence within your flight. You are responsible to line yourself up while you are waiting for your scheduled departure time. If you are not in sequence within your flight you will be asked to move to the end of your flight. If you miss your scheduled time you will leave at the end of the last flight.
  8. Tournament Check In: We will have a tournament official on the docks at the check in times. It is your responsibility to report to that person on time. There will be no exceptions. When you pull up to the dock to unload your fish, one team member should already have the fish in the bag along with your team number and all of your tags. The tournament official will confirm your arrival and then the team member with your team number and fish need to report directly to the weigh in station. Do not put the team number or your extra tags in the fish bag. Once you have dropped off your partner to go weigh fish, please pull away from the docks so other boats may unload. After weighing in the fish, your partner will return to the boat or get the trailer for you to load the boat.
  9. It is mandatory that all teams check in at the end of the tournament and return all tags and team numbers, even if you do not have any fish to weigh in. If you do not check in, you will not be allowed to enter our tournament again. We will bill you $25.00 for the tags and team number. No exceptions!
  10. Awards and door prizes will be presented at The Point after weigh in is completed. This should be around 5:30 p.m.
  11. The largest fish caught for the day will be mounted by Sportsman’s Taxidermy free of charge.
  12. AWARDS Prize money is based on 100 teams. Pay out will be adjusted accordingly depending on the number of teams entered. This event offers 85% payout. Awards will be presented at the city docks following the official weigh in.
  13. All teams must check in upon completion of tourney.
  14. THE DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES, OR WEIGH-IN PERSONNEL, WILL BE FINAL.

  16. A BOAT IDENTIFICATION WILL BE ISSUED AT THE BOAT DOCK AND WILL BE DISPLAYED OR CONTESTANT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Forgiven and Clean

May 23, 2012

Each of the following devotionals, Jody and I have read and been inspired by, through “The Upper Room”.  So much so, we wish to share them with all our friends!  Enjoy and learn with us…

Read Psalm 103:7-18 (NIV)

As far as the east is from the west, so far has the Lord removed our transgressions from us.  – Psalm 103:12 (NIV)

Today I was working in the garden and getting down and dirty while planting the corn, green beans, lettuce, peas, carrots, tomatoes, etc.  When I went into the house to wash all the dirt off my hands, I just couldn’t get that dirt from underneath my fingernails.   No matter how hard I scrubbed I just couldn’t get all that dirt out of there.  This really got me thinking about the verse above that Jody read to me a few nights ago.  It hit home as to how the Lord has removed our sins, but I, a humble man can’t even get the little dirt off my hands.  What a wonderful thing the Lord has done for all mankind.

Our own attempts to wash away our shame or cover our sin cannot succeed.  But the forgiveness God offers is above exceptional, excellent, extraordinary, and thorough.  I need to be cleaned of the guilt and released from the power of sin, and only God can do that.  Each of us can confess our failures to God in prayer and be cleansed and forgiven.  God is GREAT!!!!

Thought For The Day

Only God can wash away the stain of sin.

A Map to Christ

Each of the devotionals that I post, Jody and I have read and been inspired by, through “The Upper Room”.  So much so, we wish to share them with all our friends!  Let the journey begin…

May 11, 2012

Read John 14:1-7

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf:  Be reconciled to God.  – II Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

While working as a personal fishing/hunting/exploring guide I never leave home with out a map.  Maps surround my life, whether it’s on the lake or just looking on the plot map for that perfect piece of property to target the specific spices of the season.  And without the proper legend and reference markers, we think that we might be safe, but we’ve all of a sudden wondered off the path and into trouble.

Many times this reflects our lives.  Many of us are like living maps that lead others to Christ.  To do this our maps must include love, kindness, gentleness and generosity.  They must be oriented in such a way that the user is pointed heavenward and not in the direction of the world.  And they must be scaled to encompass all of God’s children, not just some select group that we feel most comfortable with.  I want to allow God to shape my life so that it guides other towards Christ.

Thought For The Day

We may be the only maps to Christ some people will ever see…
